The beginning of our journey

We wanted to share our adoption story with our family and friends. Please join us on our journey to meet and bring our son home from Russia.
In May of 2004 we went on a picnic up to Lake Acworth where we sat on a dock and talked about our future. We made the decision to adopt a baby from Russia. We feel so blessed in our lives and feel we have so much love to share.
We spent two months researching adoption agencies that specialized in Russian adoptions and we chose to work with Lutheran Social Services of South. They have been working in Russia for many years and have a wonderful program.
We applied to the adopton agency in July of 2004 and were accepted into their program on July 12, 2004. On our application we applied to adopt a boy under the age of 18 months. We completed all the questionaires and many forms, collected all the documents they requested and completed our homestudy by September.
In August, Scott had started having problems with back pain, after several doctor visits, a trip to the emergency room and finally to an orthopedic surgeon, it was found that he had a herniated disc. Surgery was scheduled the next day, September 27th. We decided to put the adoption on hold during his recovery period. The good news is he is doing great and on January 3, 2005 we resumed all the paperwork, got notaries and apostilles. We submitted our completed dossier to our agency on January 19th.
Our first phone call came from our coordinator several weeks later. On February 4, 2005 she told us our dossier was submitted to the region of Yaroslavl. Yaroslavl is located NE of Moscow. I have read that this is a good region, adoption friendly and healthy lovely children. We are very pleased to be going to Yaroslavl and look forward to our next call.
